Blind Snorkeling in Kauai
Thursday, June 7th, 2007Yep. It’s true. I just got back from Kauai where I went snorkeling.
Snorkeling as a visually impaired person can be serene and surprising.
Snorkeling at Lydgate where it is very easy for begineers to see colorful fish, I didn’t actually see any fish except for a quick flash of red once.
However, when I was snorkeling at Anini where there are few fish I didn’t expect to see anything and was enjoying the peacefulness of floating in the water with my face down when I suddenly felt what seemed to be a rock floating by me.
It was a green sea turtle!
So although I wouldn’t recommend snorkeling as a career for the visually impaired, you never know what you will run into if you are open to new things.
